How to stand out in a candidate driven market

Your potential employer has a lot of job applications to wade through and if you’ve been applying to a number of travel jobs with not much luck, it could be that your CV is getting lost in the sea of other suitable and qualified applicants.

In today’s economic climate, we believe that it is still possible to stand out amongst the many job seekers searching for work.

Here’s how….

1. Take the time to tailor your CV:

Do not send the same CV to every employer, read each job description carefully and pick out key requirements that the recruiter is looking for in applicants. You can then place special emphasis on matching your abilities to the job description. This of course takes more time and it can be tempting to just go for volume, but if you can send off one really strong application every day then you’ll have a better chance of getting noticed.

2. Follow up:

Hiring Managers are receiving much higher volumes of applications than usual and sorting through them all can take some time, so don’t be disheartened if don’t receive an immediate response. This is why following up is so important. If you don’t hear from the hiring manager within two weeks, following up in a courteous, professional way may help you stand out from the competition.

3. Social media presence:

It is definitely worth putting some work in to growing your online network when you’re trying to find a new role in a crowded job market. It is also more than likely that hiring managers will look you up on social media, so ensure that you’ve taken the time to polish up your social media profile.

4. Networking:

Start networking and talking to people about the travel roles you’re searching for. Ensure that you keep in regular contact with 1 or 2 specialist travel recruitment agencies as well, so you are the first to hear about new opportunities. If possible, attend virtual networking events or recruitment fairs where you will be able to meet key travel recruitment personnel and get their contact details.

5. Partner with a specialist travel recruitment agency:

Aside from often being the first to hear about new job opportunities, the benefit of using a specialist travel recruitment agency stretch right through from tailoring your job search, tidying up your CV and helping you succeed at interview. A great recruitment agency will know the travel job market inside out, they know their client’s requirements and how to help you shine in the eyes of the employers. They are experts and are well placed in helping you to find your dream job. Also, using a recruitment agency is completely free for jobseekers. So what are you waiting for?!

It is a challenging market out there, not only are there fewer job opportunities, but there is more competition than ever before.

Don’t let it put you off though! Being proactive and targeted in your job search is how you can stand out in today’s crowded travel job market.
